NVIDIA has open-sourced Boro, an AI-assisted command-line interface for Linux kernel development designed to accelerate patch validation and backporting using local or remote large models.
Led by NVIDIA engineer Andrea Righi, the tool draws inspiration from Google's Sashiko project. Written in Rust, Boro focuses on validating patches for older kernels, automating build/boot/test cycles, and detecting potential breakage in out-of-tree modules.
For developers lacking local compute capacity, Boro supports connections to OpenAI-compatible remote servers, while also integrating local backends such as Claude, OpenCode and Codex. The project is available on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license and was presented at this week's Linux Plumbers Conference (LPC 2026) in Prague.
