Mark Weatherford, Nvidia's head of cybersecurity policy, addressed questions regarding the membership of the Open Secure AI Alliance at the Open Source Summit in Prague.
He clarified that the absence of major players like OpenAI, Google, and Meta is not due to refusal but because the Linux Foundation, which now runs the alliance, is conducting a rigorous vetting process. Weatherford noted that there is a queue of "hundreds and hundreds" of companies awaiting approval.
The alliance was established in July to develop and share tools for AI safety and cyber defense following incidents like the Hugging Face hack. Current members include over 100 companies such as Mistral, Hugging Face, UiPath, Microsoft, Adobe, and Dell.
