Anthropic launched the "Cyber Mission" on October 8, deploying its frontier models and onsite engineers to assist security companies protecting power grids, water systems, and other critical infrastructure.
The initiative includes the "Critical Infrastructure Defense Program," with 11 founding partners such as Accenture, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto Networks. It also introduces "OSS Scanner," a free service providing periodic vulnerability scans to eligible open-source projects.
OSS Scanner sends model-generated reports directly to maintainers without human review to speed up delivery, though Anthropic acknowledges this may result in false positives or incorrect severity ratings. Early testing showed 85 out of 97 high-severity findings were validated by experts across 48 projects.
Commercial terms remain undisclosed, including whether partners receive free model access and who covers computing costs.
