ChatGPT adds virtual try-on, pushing further into shopping
OpenAI launched global try-on and favorites features on October 1, moving ChatGPT shopping from discovery toward purchase decisions; real-world impact unproven.
On October 1 local time, OpenAI announced two new shopping features for ChatGPT worldwide: virtual try-on and a favorites function.
Users can upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how a clothing item or accessory looks on them, via a new "try on" button on shopping results; they can also upload a product image and have ChatGPT simulate the fit. The favorites feature saves items to an in-app library alongside try-on images.
The features run on the recently released ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which OpenAI says produces more natural images and follows editing instructions more reliably. Users can also describe a style and have ChatGPT assemble an outfit, or upload a celebrity photo to find purchasable lookalike items. The announcement gave no data on try-on accuracy or purchase conversion.
