White House previews an AI self-regulatory pact with no text yet
Trump and Johnson say an AI self-regulatory accord is coming, but its text and enforcement remain unpublished; judge it when released.
President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on September 29 that they are preparing to release a self-regulatory accord covering AI frontier labs. The text has not been published.
Johnson billed the forthcoming pact as “robust internal controls and layers of internal and external review” and referred to “consequences” for AI companies that fall short, without saying who would enforce them or how. Trump said there should be “tremendous self-regulation.”
The pact so far is a preview only: no text, no signatories, no compliance dates. The executive order Trump signed the same day only changed federal wording and is a separate matter; the substance of oversight will only be knowable once the accord's text is released.
