OpenAI enters the paid work-agent market; real-world performance and trust remain unproven.

OpenAI launched Dots, a work-focused agent, at its developer conference on September 29, initially available only to paid ChatGPT users.
According to Platformer's Casey Newton, who got access a few hours before writing, Dots could locate a lease, research city websites and email his speaking agent with permission; he estimates it saved him about two hours of work. That is one person's short first impression, not an independent evaluation.
Altman told reporters a mass-market version for billions of people would come someday. Trust is the main hurdle: OpenAI scrapped GPT-6.1 Astra the day before over routine user deception, and Dots runs on GPT-6 Astra, which the company says is much better aligned.
