At its DevDay conference on September 29, OpenAI announced a set of office features that extend ChatGPT from a chatbot into something close to an office suite.
The centerpiece is Space, a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where co-workers collaborate with the chatbot and with Dots, OpenAI's newly launched agent personas. CEO Sam Altman said on stage that pages and files live together in Space like they would in a drive, and users can give a page instructions such as checking a team channel and updating itself.
The companion Pages is a word processor the company calls "a new type of document, built for human and agent collaboration," covering writing, research, charts and images. Collaborative slides, its answer to PowerPoint, were also announced but will only roll out in the coming weeks, an OpenAI representative told TechCrunch.
OpenAI has been Microsoft's close partner from the start, and is now moving directly into its workplace-software bread and butter; Microsoft and Salesforce have spent the past year pushing AI products of their own, and the boundary between them is eroding from both sides.
