Trump signs AI principles document with tech giants, but it is voluntary only

President Trump said on September 29, after a White House AI luncheon, that he had signed a "morally binding" AI document with tech leaders.

Attendees included Anthropic's Dario Amodei, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, Jeff Bezos and Satya Nadella. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters the document is a statement of "voluntary" principles that sets expectations.

Trump also championed data centers and pushed for industry self-regulation. He previously called AI safety fears a "hoax," and while he now endorses self-regulation, no binding rules were proposed and the document's text has not been made public.
