Server CPU lead times stretch as AI agent demand builds
TrendForce puts CPU lead times at 25-30 weeks versus a 16-20 week norm, with DRAM equally tight — watch Q4 procurement and cost pressure.

Research firm TrendForce said in a September 28 blog post that global server CPU lead times have stretched to 25-30 weeks, from a normal 16-20 weeks.
It attributes the shift to AI agents: using Meta's Muse as an example, each user gets a dedicated virtual machine (2 vCPUs, 8GB of memory), which at scale requires millions of additional CPUs. The report also flags DRAM supply at 20 weeks versus a normal 8.
This is one firm's market judgment and the lead-time data cannot be independently checked. If accurate, server expansion schedules and memory costs through Q1 next year are both affected, and price-increase talk is already building.
