Musk says his supercomputer's chip count could double by year-end, power remains the wildcard
The xAI expansion figures come from a personal Musk post; the later batches are plans, hinging on chip supply and Memphis power.

Elon Musk said in a post on X that xAI's Colossus 2 supercomputer currently runs 110,000 GB200 and 440,000 GB300 chips, and that the count could more than double by year-end.
Per his timetable, another 220,000 GB300 chips go fully operational next week, another 220,000 in November, and — "if we get lucky" — a third batch of 220,000 in late December. If all three land, Colossus 2 would reach roughly 1.21 million chips; with Colossus 1's 230,000, the Memphis site would total about 1.44 million GPUs, surpassing xAI's earlier target of 1 million GPUs by end of 2026.
All figures come from Musk's personal post, and the later batches are plans, not installed capacity. The facility has previously drawn scrutiny over local electricity and water use, and the schedule depends on power and chip supply.
