Oracle has sent a force majeure notice to Blue Owl Capital over Project Jupiter, its flagship AI data center planned in New Mexico, Bloomberg reported; Blue Owl confirmed receiving it.
A force majeure notice lets a company suspend some contractual obligations when events outside its control disrupt a project. RBC analyst Rishi Jaluria wrote that it signals Oracle's own risk assessment on execution has shifted enough to warrant legal cover; the project is slated for 2028 and is a key facility for converting Oracle's contract backlog into revenue.
Oracle says the project remains on schedule, and Blue Owl says financial commitments to the multiyear project are unchanged. Evercore and William Blair see limited near-term financial impact since Jupiter contributes no revenue this fiscal year. Still, with first-quarter capital expenditures at $28.5 billion, up from $8.5 billion a year earlier, shares fell about 4% on the delivery doubts.
