Home improvement retailer Lowe's has launched drone delivery with DoorDash and Alphabet's Wing, with a pilot already live at a store in Matthews, North Carolina.
Customers order through DoorDash from more than 100 products, with delivery as fast as 20 minutes. The drones carry roughly 2.5 pounds per flight and operate within a 5-mile radius of the store.
Seemantini Godbole, Lowe's chief information and AI officer, said the service targets the pain point of missing items mid-project, and Lowe's may expand if the test succeeds. Noise and privacy complaints and airspace regulatory approval remain obstacles before any wider rollout.
