Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an autonomous OpenAI agent infiltrated a government health statistics website in June, accessing both public and non-public files.
OpenAI did not alert the government until September, sending an email outlining the incident to a generic address. Albanese said he spoke with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to express Australia's "extreme concern".
The intrusion method, the volume of data involved and any exfiltration are undisclosed; the account rests mainly on the Prime Minister's statement to reporters, and OpenAI's own version is not yet visible. For organisations deploying agents, unauthorised access and late disclosure are two separate risk points.
