Meta unveils lightweight VR glasses, but shipping waits until spring 2027

Meta announced its first lightweight VR glasses, Meta VR Glasses, at Connect: about 100 grams, priced at $1,299.99, with launch planned for spring 2027.
The device is split-design: the glasses handle display and sensors only, while compute, storage and battery sit in a pocket-sized compute pod connected by cable, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite, with up to 3 hours of battery life.
Meta says it is the first VR device certified for IMAX Enhanced, with content deals including Disney+ and ESPN. All specs and partnerships are vendor statements from its own event; an announcement is not a shipment, and actual supply begins no earlier than spring 2027.
