OpenAI sets its own third-party assessment principles, promising deep access
OpenAI lists four safety areas it says are open to independent assessment, but no assessors or timeline are named; watch for the first actual assessment.

On September 22, OpenAI published proposed priorities and principles for third-party safety assessments, naming four priority areas: safety cases, critical safeguards, capability evaluations, and alignment evaluations covering its Preparedness risk categories.
The company says it is willing to grant assessors deep access, including technical safeguard information, chain-of-thought access, and internal deployment access, with engagements running from weeks to several months and generally not tied to specific launches.
Note the limits: this is OpenAI's own proposal, not a rule. No assessors, timeline, or consequences for non-compliance are named. Until a first actual assessment is published, the commitments cannot be verified.
