Tesla registers a Vietnam entity, but entry timing remains unset
The registration is a precondition, not a commitment: no amount or timeline disclosed, and VinFast holds roughly 92% of a market it locks up with its own charging network.

Tesla registered a local entity, Tesla Motors Vietnam, this month, according to business registration records. No entry timing or investment amount has been made public.
Vietnam is Southeast Asia's largest EV market, with electric cars at almost 40% of new car sales in 2025. VinFast holds about 92% of the domestic EV market and runs a proprietary network of more than 150,000 charging ports restricted to its own vehicles; BYD has faced the same infrastructure barrier.
Analysts told CNBC that Tesla would initially compete for premium buyers with the Model 3 and Model Y, and that reaching the mass market would require more competitive pricing or a lower-cost model. The registration itself is not an entry commitment.
